WARNING! THE FIRST MAJOR CREEK THAT IS CROSSED EAST OF RED GAP PASS HAS EXTREMELY SLIPPERY ROCKS. HIKERS HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED ATTEMPTING TO GET WATER FROM THE CREEK AFTER CLIMBING ONTO THE ROCKS BOTH AT THE BRIDGE SITE AND FROM THE SWITCHBACKS BELOW. USE EXTREME CAUTION!!!

VEHICLES NOT RECOMMENDED!!! This access to the Slide Lake area is by way of an unmarked and unmaintained road across Blackfeet Indian Nation land. This access to the Glacier Park boundary is very muddy, rutted, rocky, and used heavily by cattle. There is one major fork in the road a couple miles in, the left fork that leads down towards Otatso Creek is the way to Slide.
DIRECTIONS: Heading north up Highway 89, turn left onto Chief Mountain Highway 17. Drive 4.3 miles north up Highway 17. Look for a dirt road on the left heading west/southwest and skirting just south of Chief Mountain. If you go by Chief Mtn. Overlook (aka Crusher Hill), a pullout at the top of a hill, you have gone 0.3 miles too far.
